Outreach and Mentoring
I took the long way into science, and that shapes how I mentor.
Before going back to school, I worked in construction and food service. Returning as a non-traditional student taught me how much a single person who answers questions can change whether someone stays in science. I try to be that person for others.
Mentoring
- Mentoring undergraduate researchers in the Shi Lab, from bench techniques to data analysis
- Mentoring first-generation college students
Outreach
I'm especially interested in outreach that reaches students who don't yet see themselves in science, including people coming to it later in life.
Outside the lab
I'm committed to staying physically active, and I enjoy New Orleans' cultural scene and keeping up with computer hardware and technology.
